summertime love

I’ve settled into my cozy old house on the north side of campus. My housemates are lovely and I’ve been getting along with them really well. For the first few days I was very lonely and no one was ever home. The friends that I was used to seeing a lot throughout the school year had left for summer and I had nothing to do. On the third day, I was very bored and sitting on the couch smoking weed by myself. One of my housemates came home and rolled a joint, I packed a bowl, and our other housemate made fried plantains. It was true love ever since.

I’ve been going to art history class four days a week for two hours, studying for two hours after, and filling the rest of the day with work on the story I’m writing and going to yoga classes at the gym. It’s nice living in the house because I like to be constantly in the presence of people while I’m working, even if I’m not necessarily hanging out with them. I enjoy the company.

The story I’m writing is very time consuming because I’m trying to pre-plan everything very thoroughly. I am still doing some minor research and writing detailed profiles of all of the characters involved— I haven’t even gotten to the actual writing yet! My strategy is to plan ahead as thoroughly as possible so that when I am writing I can concentrate on style instead of having to think of plot elements as I go along. I write fiction pretty rarely and it’s nice to be able to devote time to it in the summer.
