summer so far
I moved out of my dorm and into a house on the complete other side of Berkeley. It’s occupied by 8 people during the year but a lot of them have left for the summer and right now there’s only three of us. I spent my first night there home alone and it was so frightening! The house is very old and the steps squeek and you can hear every noise. I was terrified. The next day, though, I went jogging/exploring around the area and realized that I actually quite like it. It’s a lot better than Southside in my opinion, even though I’m living on Southside starting August.
The Telegraph area is just gross though. The separation between people there is so stark: there’s either students (mostly freshmen, too, since the dorms are there) or homeless people. It seems like no one in between exists when you spend all your time there (like I did for the past year). On Northside, though, I think there is greater social class and age diversity, which is a relief. I hate the polarization of Southside, it creates a lot of friction.
For summer, I have a lot of solitary actiivities planned and I’m quite excited. The weather is really good so I’ve been trying to spend as much time as I can outside reading or jogging or just sitting around enjoying the sun. I had my first day of art history class today and I am so thrilled! The only thing is that I have to wake up at 9 four times a week. Bummer.
