Jasper Fforde, the Eyre Affair
My current read, such a good book! It seemed a bit frivolous and cheaply written at first but as the novel progressed I really grew to appreciate Fforde’s meticulous character development and painstaking literary allusions. The most interesting part of the book, though, is how the characters in the story all seem to belong to their own books that are quoted in the beginning of the chapters, blurring the distinction between fiction (fictional fiction, that is) and reality. Also, the various characters disappear into famous novels and characters from famous novels in turn enter the story. Basically I am undeniably a literature nerd so I am jizzing all over myself reading this book. It’s a fun read but the book unexpectedly turns out to have a lot of depth so I recommend it. Wow, I did not intend for this to become a book review but better that I rave about it on tumblr, where you can at least choose whether or not you pay attention to me.
